Procedure

The thioacetate prepared in Example 9A (65 mg, 0.15 mmol) was dissolved in 2 mL methanol and 1 mL THF with 0.3 mL of IN LiOH. After stirring for 1 hour, 0.1 mL of acetic acid was added. The solution was extracted into ethyl acetate, washed with water and dried over magnesium sulfate. The product was dissolved into 1.0 ml acetic acid, heated to about 50° C. and concentrated in vacuo to give a light yellow solid (30 mg).
