A mixture of ethyl (1-benzyl-3-hydroxy-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)acetate (521 mg), 4-(4-chloromethyl-2-methoxyphenoxymethyl)-5-methyl-2-phenyloxazole (687 mg), potassium carbonate (553 mg) and N,N-dimethylformamide (10 ml) was stirred at 60° C. for 5 hrs. The reaction mixture was poured into water and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate layer was washed with saturated brine, dried (MgSO4) and concentrated. The residue was subjected to silica gel column chromatography, and ethyl [1-benzyl-3-[3-methoxy-4-(5-methyl-2-phenyl-4-oxazolylmethoxy)benzyloxy]-1H-pyrazol-4-yl]acetate (632 mg, yield 56%) was obtained as colorless crystals from a fraction eluted with ethyl acetate-hexane (1:2, volume ratio). The crystals were recrystallized from ethyl acetate-hexane. melting point: 86–87° C.
