To a suspension of dichloro[(S)-(−)-2,2′-bis(diphenylphosphino)-1,1′-binaphthyl]ruthenium(II) (851 mg), (1S,2S)-(−)-1,2-diphenyethylenediamine (191 mg) and potassium-tert-butoxide (270 mg) in isopropanol (90 ml) was added cyclopropyl 2-methylphenyl ketone (9.61 g) obtained in Step 2, and the mixture was hydrogenated at room temperature and at medium pressure (3.0 kgf/cm2) for 60 hr. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (ethyl acetate:hexane=1:9) to give the title compound (6.92 g).
