2-Bromo-3-(p-nitrophenoxy)-4-methoxy benzaldehyde (3.5 gm, 0.0087 mol), anhydrous sodium carbonate (1.125 gm, 0.0106 mol) and palladium (II) acetate (0.19 gm, 0.0008 mol), in dimethylacetamide (15 ml) are heated and stirred under nitrogen at 170° C. for 2 h. Water (90 ml) is added to the cooled reaction mixture. The precipitated solid is collected by filteration and washed with 5% hydrochloric acid followed by water. The product was obtained as a yellow solid (3.4 gm).
