To 1,2-dibromoethane (15.7 ml) were added 6-methoxycarbonylindoline (2.41 g) and triethylamine (7.8 ml), and the mixture was stirred at 90° C. for 2 hr. Ethyl acetate (150 ml) was added to the reaction mixture, and the mixture was washed with saturated brine (300 ml) and dried over Na2SO4. Ethyl acetate was evaporated under reduced pressure. The obtained residue was purified by column chromatography to give the title compound (1.71 g).
