Procedure
To a degassed solution of 1.5 g (5.1 mmol) of material from Example 1, 1.1 g (7.7 mmol) of 3-fluorobenzeneboronic acid and 1.1 g (7.7 mmol) of potassium carbonate in 30 mL of toluene was added 0.2 g (0.3 mmol) of bis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(II) dichloride. The mixture was heated to 100° C. for 16 hours, cooled to ambient temperature and diluted with 20 mL of ethyl acetate. The mixture was washed once with 25 mL water and the organic portion was separated. The aqueous portion was extracted three times with ethyl acetate and the combined organics were dried (MgSO4), filtered. and concentrated in vacuo. Chromatography on 75 g silica gel (20% ethyl acetate/toluene) followed by recrystallization from ethyl ether, filtration and drying in vacuo at 60° C. afforded 0.15 g (9%) of the title compound.
