A solution of 5-(4-fluoro-phenyl)-2-methyl-thiazole-4-carboxylic acid (1.00 g, 4.2 mmol), HATU (1.60 g, 4.2 mmol) and N,N-diisopropylethylamine (2.00 ml, 11.6 mmol) in DMF (20 ml) was stirred at room temperature under argon for 2 min. The mixture was then treated with (RS)-4,5-difluoro-2-piperidin-2-ylmethyl-1H-benzoimidazole, D21 (1.06 g, 4.2 mmol) and stirring was continued for 16 h. The solvent was removed in vacuo and the residue was washed with water then was triturated with ethyl acetate to afford the title compound as an off-white solid (1.68 g, 85%).
