To a solution of 2-chloro-N-[(1R)-2-hydroxy-1-phenylethyl]acetamide from Step A (12.0 g, 56 mmol) in THF (750 mL) at 0° C. was added NaH (4.48 g of a 60% dispersion in oil, 112 mmol) in portions over 1 h and the mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 1 h. Saturated aqueous NH4Cl (100 mL) was added and the mixture was extracted with EtOAc (2×200 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound. MS: m/z=178 (M+1).
