To a stirred solution of 4-[2-[2-ethyl-4-methyl-6-oxo-1,6-dihydro-1-pyrimidinyl]ethoxy]benzaldehyde oxime (301 mg, 1.0 mmol) (obtained from preparation 17) in a mixture of methanol (7 ml) and THF (3 ml) was added 4 N HCl (2 ml) in dioxane at 30° C. and stirred for 10 min. at the same temperature. The reaction mixture was basified to pH 9 with 1 N NaOH and extracted with EtOAc (3×10 ml). The combined organic layers were washed with brine and dried over anhydrous Na2SO4 and concentrated to yield the of title compound (272 mg, 90%).
