To a stirred solution of intermediate 21, ethyl 3-(benzyloxy)-9-(2-(methylthio)ethyl)-4-oxo-4,6,7,9-tetrahydropyrimido[2,1-c][1,4]oxazine-2-carboxylate (97 mg, 0.2 mmol) in 3 mL tetrahydrofuran was added lithium hydroxide (15 mg, 0.6 mmol) in 3 mL water. After 20 min the reaction mixture was acidified with 1N HCl and extracted with CH2Cl2. The extract was dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated to give 82 mg of the title compound (88% yield).
