(2,4-dioxo-5-phenyl-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-1,5-benzodiazepin-1-yl)acetic acid (8.0 g, 25.78 mM) and benzyl alcohol (3.35 g, 31 mM) were dissolved in 200 ml of toluene and 0.5 g of p-toluenesulfonic acid were added and resulting mixture was refluxed until TLC (Hexane/AcOEt 8/12) showed completion of reaction. Organic layer was washed 3 times with sodium bicarbonate solution, dried and toluene evaporated providing 9.5 g of product.
