Procedure
A mixture of α-trifluoromethylacrylic acid (700 mg; 5.0 mmole) and benzylurea (841 mg; 5.6 mmoles) in DMF (3 ml) was heated at 90° C. with stirring for 28 hours. DMF was evaporated under reduced pressure, and the residue was recrystallized from ethyl acetatechloroform to give 1.10 g (yield: 76%) of 1-benzyl-3-(2-hydroxycarbonyl-3,3,3-trifluoropropyl)urea. m.p.: 183°-183.5° C.
