Procedure

2-[2-(2-Chloro-4-methoxyphenoxy)ethoxy]ethyl iodide was prepared from 24.7 g. of the corresponding chloride of part (a) by three hours reflux with 13.5 g. of sodium iodide in 200 ml. of 2-butanone. The crude product was used directly in part (c) below.
