Procedure
Part B: To a cooled (0° C.) stirred solution of 5-(4-chlorophenyl)-4-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)thiazole-2-carboxamide (1.16 gram, 3.02 mmol) in anhydrous DMF (20 mL) is added NaH (0.13 gram of a 60% dispersion) in a nitrogen atmosphere. The resulting mixture is stirred for 1 hour and excess 4,4,4-trifluoro-1-bromobutane (0.7 mL) is added. The resulting solution is stirred at room temperature for 1 hour, poured onto ice/water and extracted twice with diethyl ether. The collected diethyl ether layers are twice washed with water, dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The residue is further purified by column chromatography (silica gel: eluant: dichloromethane) to give 5-(4-chlorophenyl)-4-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-N-(4,4,4-trifluorobutyl)thiazole-2-carboxamide. Melting point: 99-101° C.
