Procedure
A suspension of methyl 2-(4-chloro-6-methyl-2-(piperidin-1-yl)pyrimidin-5-yl)pentanoate (0.081 g; 0.25 mmol), piperidine (0.122 mL; 1.228 mmol) and potassium carbonate (0.102 mg; 0.737 mmol) in acetonitrile (1 mL) was irradiated at 130° C. for 2 h in a microwave oven. The mixture was partitioned between brine and ethyl acetate, the phases were separated and the aqueous layer was extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic layers were dried over magnesium sulphate, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure. Purification by flash-chromatography on silica gel using a gradient of ethyl acetate (1-10%) in heptane furnished 0.042 g (46%) of the title compound as a colorless oil.
