Procedure

To a solution of (S)-methyl 2-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-(1-phenylethylamino)quinoxaline-6-carboxylate (100 mg, 0.25 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (15 mL) was added sodium hydride (30 mg, 0.75 mmol), and the reaction mixture was stirred for 10 minutes. CH3I (106 mg, 0.75 mmol) was added, and the resulting mixture was stirred overnight. The reaction was then quenched by the addition of NH4Cl solution (50 mL) and adjusted pH to 5 with hydrochloric acid (3N). The solids were collected by filtration to afford (S)-2-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-(methyl(1-phenylethyl)amino)quinoxaline-6-carboxylic acid as a yellow solid (47.5 mg, 48%).
