Procedure

To a round-bottom flask were added 2-[(Phenylsulfonyl)methyl]benzyl bromide (4{29}, 1.0 g, 3.08 mmol, 1.0 equiv.), 10 (1.06 g, 6.16 mmol, 2.0 equiv.), K2CO3 (1.70 g, 12.32 mmol, 4.0 equiv.), and 3:2 THF:acetone (15 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at reflux overnight. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature. The solid was filtered and washed with acetone. The filtrate was concentrated and purified by silica gel column chromatography (gradient, 25-50% EtOAc/hexanes) to afford 6{29} (920.1 mg, 72%) as an off-white solid. 1H-NMR (500 MHz, CDCl3): δ 7.64 (dd, 2H, J=0.5, 8.0 Hz), 7.60-7.57 (m, 1H), 7.44 (t, 2H, J=8.0 Hz), 7.21 (t, 1H, J=8.0 Hz), 7.12 (d, 2H, J=7.5 Hz), 6.98 (d, 1H, J=7.5 Hz), 4.81 (s, 2H), 4.14 (q, 2H, J=7.0), 3.31 (s, 2H), 3.15 (s, 2H), 2.50 (br s, 4H), 2.36 (br s, 4H), 1.22 (t, 3H, J=7.0 Hz). 13C-NMR (125 MHz, CDCl3): δ 170.1, 138.6, 138.1, 133.6, 132.4, 131.0, 128.8, 128.5, 128.4, 127.9, 127.3, 61.1, 60.4, 59.2, 58.9, 52.8, 52.6, 14.1.
