Into a flask containing a solution of methyl-2-(1-ethoxyvinyl)-1-((2-(tri-methylsilyl)-ethoxy)methyl)-1H-imidazole-4-carboxylate (3.5 g, 10.7 mmol) in THF (25 ml), 2 N HCl (25 ml) was added at RT and stirred for 3 h. The reaction mixture was concentrated and extracted with DCM. The organic layer was evaporated and the residue was purified by flash chromatography. Yield 2.6 g. 1H-NMR (400 MHz; CDCl3): δ −0.016 (s, 9H), 0.94 (t, 2H), 2.73 (s, 3H), 3.58 (t, 2H), 3.94 (s, 3H), 5.76 (s, 2H), 7.93 (s, 1H).
