Silver oxide (12.7 g, 54.8 mmol) was added to a solution of 2-bromo-1-((2-(trimethyl-silyl)ethoxy)methyl)-1H-imidazole-4-carboxylic acid (11.7 g, 36.5 mmol) in ACN (200 ml) and stirred at RT for 10 min. Benzyl bromide (4.2 ml, 36.5 mmol) was added to the mixture and stirred at RT for 12 h. The reaction mixture was filtered through a celite bed and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure. The product was purified by flash chromatography. Yield 10 g. 1H-NMR (400 MHz; CDCl3): δ −0.04 (s, 9H), 0.92 (t, 2H), 3.54 (t, 2H), 5.29 (s, 2H), 5.35 (s, 2H), 7.30-7.44 (m, 5H), 7.76 (s, 1H).
