Procedure

A solution of lithium hydroxide (8.2 mg, 342 μmol) in water was added to a stirred solution of methyl 2-(biphenyl-2-ylmethyl)-5-hydroxy-1-methyl-6-oxo-1,6-dihydropyrimidine-4-carboxylate (0.1 g, 285 μmol) in THF. After 24 h, the reaction was quenched by addition of 1M HCl, extracted into EtOAc, washed with brine, dried (MgSO4) and evaporated. Purification by preparative HPLC gave the desired product as a white solid (0.010 g; 10%). LCMS: m/z=337 (MH+).
