A mixture of methyl 5-(benzyloxy)-2-(cyclohexylmethyl)-1-methyl-6-oxo-1,6-dihydropyrimidine-4-carboxylate (60 mg, 162 μmol) and 20% palladium hydroxide on carbon (11.4 mg, 16.2 μmol) in EtOAc (10 ml) was placed under an atmosphere of hydrogen and stirred at room temperature overnight. The mixture was filtered and then evaporated to dryness. Chromatography (SiO2; 0 to 20% EtOAc in hexanes) gave the title product as a white solid (0.032 g; 70%). LCMS: m/z=281 (MH+).
