Procedure
When an equivalent amount of 6-chlorosalicylaldehyde is used as a starting material in the procedure of Example 15 in place of salicylaldehyde and the product 4-chloro-2-(4'-methoxybenzoyl)benzofuran is reduced with hydrazine hydrate, 4-chloro-2-(4'-methoxybenzyl)benzofuran is obtained.
