Ethyl 7-chloro-1-(2,4-difluoro-5-methylaminophenyl)-6-fluoro-4-oxo-1,4-dihydro-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carboxylate (150 mg) was added to 1 ml of a mixture of 3N hydrochloric acid and acetic acid (1/1, vol/vol), which was stirred and heated at reflux for 2 hours. After 5 ml of distilled water was added, the reaction solution was heated at reflux for a further 10 minutes and then allowed to cool down. The precipitate was dispersed in ethanol, collected by filtration, and washed with ethanol and then with diisopropyl ether to give 70 mg of the title compound.
