8-Chloro-7-(2,2-dimethoxy-ethoxy)-2-(2-isopropyl-thiazol-4-yl)-quinolin-4-ol (502 mg, 1.20 mmol) was dissolved in pyridine (10 mL). POCl3 (2.29 mL, 25.0 mmol) was added slowly. The reaction was heated at 80° C. for 4 hours. The reaction was cooled to 0° C. and methanol (5 mL) was added. The reaction was neutralized with a sat NaHCO3(aq) solution. The product was extracted with EtOAc (3×20 mL). The combined organics were dried with Na2SO4, filtered and was concentrated. 4,8-Dichloro-7-(2,2-dimethoxy-ethoxy)-2-(2-isopropyl-thiazol-4-yl)-quinoline (256 mg, 49%) was isolated by silica gel chromatography as a yellow solid.
