A mixture of 3-(4-cyano-2-fluoro-phenyl)-5-methoxy-4,5-dihydro-isoxazole-5-carboxylic acid methyl ester (172 mg), 1N aqueous NaOH solution (2 mL), and tetrahydrofuran (5 mL) is stirred at room temperature for 3 h. The reaction mixture is acidified with 1 N hydrochloric acid (approximately pH 3) and concentrated in vacuo.
