Benzylamine (1.47 g, 13.7 mmol) and sodium (triacetoxy)borohydride (5.30 g, 25 mmol) were added to a solution of tert-butyl 3-(benzyloxy)-4-oxopiperidine-1-carboxylate obtained in Example (90b) (3.81 g, 12.5 mmol) in 1,2-dichloroethane (40 mL), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 40 minutes. The reaction solution was diluted with dichloromethane, washed with a 1 N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution and brine, and dried over magnesium sulfate. Following concentration under reduced pressure, the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (elution solvent: hexane/ethyl acetate=4/1, 1/1, 1/3, 0/1) to obtain 4.34 g of the title compound as a colorless solid (91%).
