Procedure

To a mixture of 1-(4-fluorobenzyl)-5-methanesulfonyl-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridine-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (0.49 g) and tetrahydrofuran (14 ml), lithium aluminum hydride (77 mg) was added at 0° C. and the mixture was stirred at the same temperature for 15 minutes. The mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate and a saturated aqueous NaCl solution was added thereto. The mixture was dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure. The resulting residue was separated using silica gel column chromatography (hexane:ethyl acetate=1:1) to obtain the desired product (0.39 g) as a white powder.
