(3S, 5R)-1-(2,4-Dimethoxy-benzyl)-3,5-dimethyl-4-trifluoroacetyl-piperazin-2-one (575 mg, 1.54 mmol) is dissolved in 30 mL of methanol and 3 mL of H2O. Potassium carbonate (883 mg, 6.4 mmol) is added to the solution, and the reaction is refluxed for one and half hours before concentration. Ethyl acetate (3×50 mL) is used to extract the aqueous layer. Removal of Ethyl acetate afforded the crude amine (387 mg, 91% yield) as a clear oil. C15H22N2O3 MS m/z: 279.
