To a solution of (R)-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolane-4-carboxylic acid methyl ester (5.0 g, 31.25 mmol) in MeOH (32.0 mL) at room temperature was added a solution of lithium hydroxide monohydrate (1.31 g, 31.25 mmol) in water (10.0 mL). The resulting mixture was stirred for thirty min before it was concentrated. The resulting white solid was further dried under vacuum to give the title compound (4.59 g).
