A suspension of 7-benzyloxy-3-(4-chlorophenyl)-2-isopropyl-8-methoxy-chromen-4-one (2.68 g, 6.16 mmol) and Pd/carbon (20%, 268 mg) in tetrahydrofuran (30 ml), absolute ethanol (30 ml) and 5M HCl solution (15 ml) is stirred under a balloon of H2 at room temperature for 3 h. The reaction mixture is filtered through a pad of Celite filter aid, which is itself washed with tetrahydrofuran. The solvent is removed under reduced pressure to afford the desired product, which is used without further purification.
