Procedure

A solution of methyl 2-benzo[1,3]dioxol-5-ylmethyl-1,1-dioxo-4-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)-1,2-dihydro-1λ6 -benzo[e][1,2]thiazine-3-carboxylate (0.28 g, 0.05 mmol) in THF/methanol/water (10 mL/3 mL/3 mL) was treated with lithium hydroxide (0.33 g, 7.78 mmol) and the reaction mixture stirred at room temperature overnight. The solution was diluted with ethyl acetate, washed with 1N HCl, brine, dried over magnesium sulfate, and the solvent evaporated. The foam was crystallized from methylene chloride/isopropyl ether; MS (CI) m/e 525.
