5.15 g (0.034 mol) 4-hydroxybenzothiophene was dissolved in 130 ml methylethylketone and admixed with 9.4 g (0.068 mol) K2CO3 and 20 g (0.068 mol) 5-methyl-2-phenyl-4-(2-bromoethyl)oxazole. The preparation was boiled for 72 hours under reflux, evaporated, taken up in ethyl acetate and extracted three times by shaking with 2N NaOH. After cooling and evaporation of the organic phase, it was crystallized from ethyl acetate/isohexane. 8.8 g 4-[2-(5-methyl-2-phenyl-4-oxazolyl)ethoxy]benzothiophene of melting point 130°-132° C. is obtained.
