Procedure
Benzyloxycarbonyl chloride (12.4 ml) was added dropwise to a mixture of 10 g of trans-4-aminocyclohexanol, 13.3 ml of triethylamine and 300 ml of dichloromethane under ice-cooling, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for one hour. The reaction mixture was washed and dried, and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure. The residue was recrystallized from an ethyl acetate solution to give 5.80 g of N-benzyloxycarbonyl-trans-4-aminocyclohexanol (yield: 27%, melting point: 148°-151° C.).
