322.8 g (2.5 mol) of 2,4-difluoroaniline, 265.3 g (2.5 mol) of benzaldehyde and 1000 ml of toluene are heated to reflux, and the water formed is removed for 5 hours at 90°-105° C. using a water separator. The toluene is removed by distillation on a vacuum rotary evaporator, and the product is recrystallized from hexane, to give 516.9 g (92.5 % of theory) of N-benzal-2,4-difluoroaniline, which melts at 51°-52° C.
