To a stirred solution of p-aminophenylalanine methyl ester (1.7 g, 8.8 mmol) in ethanol (150 ml) was added methylamine in ethanol (33%/8M) (100 ml). After stirring at room temperature for 24 hours the reaction mixture was reduced under pressure to yield the title compound as a brown solid (1.7 g, 100%)
