The product from Example 12c (78 g) was added to a solution of potassium hydroxide (50 g, 0.78 mol) in water (600 mi) and the mixture was refluxed overnight. After addition of activated carbon (2 g) and sodium sulfite (0.5 g) the mixture was allowed to cool, with s&%g to room temperature and then filtered.
