Procedure

The product of step B (1.5 g, 4.8 mmol) was dissolved in DMF (15 mL), and sodium hydride (60 wt % dispersion in oil, 290 mg, 7.3 mmol) was added. After stirring at RT for 1 hour, (4-(bromomethyl)phenyl)(methyl)sulfane (1.35 g, 6.2 mmol) was added, and the resulting solution was stirred at RT for 18 h. The solution was partitioned between sat. NH4Cl and EtOAc. The aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic layers were washed with brine and dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (5/1 hexanes/EtOAc) to yield the title compound.
