Procedure

The nitrile 25E (2.2 g, 7.2 mmol), 4-trifluoromethylphenylboronic acid (2.05 g, 1.1 mol eq), palladium acetate (45 mg), cesium carbonate (4.5 g, 2 mol eq), and XPhos (190 mg) were mixed, placed under a nitrogen atmosphere and dioxane (10 mL) was added. The mixture was heated at 100° C. overnight. After cooling, the mixture was filtered through a celite pad, washed with dioxane (2×20 mL) and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was a yellow oil. 1HNMR (DMSO, 200 MHz) δ 1.14 (bm, 4H), 1.59 (bm, 1H), 1.75 (bm, 4H), 2.26 (bm, 2H), 2.58 (m, 4H), 3.62 (m, 4H), 7.33 (s, 1H), 7.66 (s, 1H), 7.82 (d, 2H, J=8.2), 8.28 (d, 2H, J=8.2).
