Procedure

To a solution of 3-cyclobutyl-4-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)pyridine 1-oxide (Example 108d, 3.5 g, 14.2 mmol) in dichloromethane (55 ml) under argon atmosphere was added trimethylsilylcyanide (1.83 g, 2.47 ml, 18.4 mmol) followed by addition of dimethylcarbamoyl chloride (CAN 79-44-7, 2.28 g, 1.95 ml, 21.2 mmol). The reaction mixture was then stirred at room temperature for 18 hours. The reaction mixture was diluted with dichloromethane and extracted with an 1.0M aqueous solution of sodium bicarbonate. The organic phase was dried over sodium sulfate and evaporated down to dryness. The crude material was purified by flash chromatography on silica eluting with a heptane/ethylacetate gradient to yield the title compound (2.95 g, 77%) as light yellow solid. MS (ESI, m/z): 257.5 (M+H+).
