Procedure
NaHMDS (65.7 mL, 1M in THF) was added into the solution of 4,6-dichloro-2-(methylthio)pyrimidine (6.4 g) and methyl 4-aminobenzoate (5 g) in THF (200 mL). The reaction was stirred at room temperature for 16 hours, before being quenched by water. The aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc (3×200 mL). The combined organic phase was dried over MgSO4 and concentrated under vacuum to give the crude product, methyl 6-(6-chloro-2-(methylthio)pyrimidin-4-ylamino)nicotinate, which was used in the next step without purification.
