(2R,3R)-3-Amino-4-(2-chloro-phenyl)-2-hydroxy-butyric acid ethyl ester (100 mg, 0.4 mmol) was combined with 1-butanol (5 mL) and concentrated HCl (1 mL) and heated at 70° C. for 24 hours. Excess solvent was removed to yield the title compound as an HCl salt.
