Into a 50-mL 3-necked round-bottom flask, was placed a solution of tert-butyl 2-(2-cyclobutyl-5-(methoxycarbonyl)-4-methylphenyl)-4,5,7,8-tetrahydroimidazo[4,5-d]azepine-6(1H)-carboxylate (compound 82.6, 200 mg, 0.46 mmol) in EtOAc (10 mL). Hydrogen chloride (gas) was introduced into the solution by bubbling and the solution was stirred for 30 min at room temperature. The resulting mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure to yield 136 mg (crude) of the title compound as a yellow solid.
