Procedure

2-[4-(Ethoxycarbonyl)phenyl]-5,6-dihydro-1,2,4-triazolo-[4,3-c]-quinazolin-3-one (Compound 18) (1 g, 3.0 mmol) was mixed with THF at 0° C. DIBAL (1.5M in Toluene, 4.6 ml) was added to the reaction dropwise and stirred for 10 min. at 0° C. The reaction was quenched with 10% NaOH solution and extracted with CH2Cl2 (3×100 ml). The combined organic layers were dried over Na2SO4 and evaporated under reduced pressure to afford 2-[4-(hydroxymethyl)-phenyl]-5,6-dihydro-1,2,4-triazolo[4,3-c]-quinazolin-3-one (Compound 19), m.p. 152°-154° C.
