A suspension of sodium hydride (0.3; 60% oil dispersion) in dimethylformamide (5 mL) is treated with 4-amino-3,5-dichloropyridine (0.62 g) and the mixture is stirred for 40 minutes. A solution of 3-(2-fluorocyclopentyloxy)-4-methoxybenzoyl chloride in dimethylformamide (12 mL) is added, and the mixture is stirred at 80°-90° C. for 1 day. The solution is cooled, poured into water (75 mL) and extracted with dichloromethane (3×50 mL). The combined organic extracts are washed with brine (50 mL), dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated. The residue is subjected to flash chromatography, eluting with a mixture of ethyl acetate and petroleum ether (1:3 v/v), to give N-(3,5-dichloropyrid-4-yl)-3-(2-fluorocyclopentyloxy)-4-methoxybenzamide (0.26 g), m.p. 167°-169° C.
