Procedure
A mixture of 2,4,5-tribromopyrrole-3-carbonitrile (5.0 g, 0.015 mol) and potassium T-butoxide (2.0 g, 0.018 mol) in dry tetrahydrofuran is stirred for 10 minutes at room temperature, treated dropwise with a solution of p-chlorobenzoyl chloride (3.25 g, 0.018 mol) in tetrahydrofuran, heated at reflux temperature for 3 hours, cooled and diluted with a mixture of water and ethyl acetate. The organic phase is separated, washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated in vacuo to afford a tan solid residue. Recrystallization from benzene gives the title compound as a cream colored solid, 2.9 g (41.4%), mp 154°-157° C.
