A solution of 8.2 grams (18.4 mmol) of 4-dodecylamino 1-alpha-methylbenzyloxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine (made in Example 11B), 1.86 gram (18.4 mmol) of triethylamine, and 30 ml of tetrahydrofuran is added dropwise over a fifteen minute period to a solution of 2.44 grams (9.2 mmol) of 3,9-dichloro 2,4,8,10-tetraoxa-3,9-diphosphaspiro[5.5]undecane in 20 ml of tetrahydrofuran. The reaction mixture is then stirred at ambient temperature for four hours. Triethylamine hydrochloride is removed by filtration, and the filtrate is evaporated at reduced pressure to afford 9.88 grams of the title compound as a colorless syrup.
