Procedure

A mixture of 2-(methoxymethyl)-5-methyl-7-nitro-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran (8a) (0.85 g, 3.8 mmol) and Pd/C (90 mg, 10%) in THF (10 mL) was introduced H2 and stirred at ambient temperature for 12 h. The mixture was filtered through celite and concentrated to give the title compound (8b) as oil. MS-ESI (m/z): 194 (M+1)+.
