To 5-bromo-3-fluoropyridin-2-amine (300 mg, 2.0 mmol) in THF (10 mL) was added Pd2(dba)3 (94 mg, 0.10 mmol) and X—PHOS (98 mg, 0.20 mmol), followed by 2-(tert-butoxy)-2-oxoethylzinc chloride solution (10.6 mL, 0.5 M, 5.3 mmol). The reaction mixture was heated at 65° C. over night. The reaction mixture was quenched with NH4Cl, and the aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc. The organic extracts were washed with brine, dried, and evaporated to give the crude product, which was purified by column chromatography (0-100% EtOAc/hexanes) to give title compound: LC/MS: [(M+1-56)]+=171.5;
