To a solution of 2′,3′-dichloro-[1,1′-biphenyl]-3-acetic acid ethyl ester (i.e. the product of Step A, 0.45 g, 1.45 mmol) and diethyl carbonate (5 mL) was added sodium hydride (60% dispersion in oil, 0.23 g, 5.8 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature, and then quenched with saturated aqueous ammonium chloride solution. The reaction mixture was then extracted with ethyl acetate, and the organic layer was dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure to yield the title compound (0.50 g).
