Oxalyl chloride (112.0 mL, 1.153 mol) was added drop-wise to a stirred solution of rel-(1R,2R)-cyclopropane-1,2-dicarboxylic acid (60.0 g, 0.461 mol) in dichloromethane (600 mL) at 0° C. DMF (2 mL) was added to the reaction mixture at 0° C., and then the reaction mixture was allowed to warm to ambient temperature. After 2 hours, the reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure to afford rel-(1R,2R)-cyclopropane-1,2-dicarbonyl dichloride. The material was used without further purification.
